Made in Japan model combining the aesthetics of the 1960s with the expert craftsmanship that has been refined over the past 50 years

The "FG/FS Red Label Series" is a modern evolution of the "FG", commonly known as the "Red Label" as the origin of the Yamaha Folk Guitar.
Yamaha began full-fledged guitar production and sales in 1966 with the release of the "FG180" and "FG150," the first Yamaha folk guitar models made in Japan, and to this day, many users have enjoyed the Yamaha FG series, from entry-level models to professional models.
At the same time, Yamaha has continued to work on quality improvement and technological innovation, and has completed the FG/FS Red Label series, which pursues a sound and modern design suited to today's music scene by utilizing the latest technology, while following the design philosophy of the FG, which is tailored to Japanese tastes.

FS5 has a 634mm scale folk-type body with a Sitka spruce veneer (A.R.E.) top and mahogany veneer side/back.
Mahogany neck with 44mm nut width, ebony fingerboard, and ox bone for nut and saddle.
The newly developed scalloped bracing, which makes full use of the latest acoustic analysis simulation technology, produces a more powerful tone with expanded low frequency range than before.
Design reminiscent of FGs of yesteryear
The traditional V-shaped head features the Yamaha tuning fork logo, and the FG's trademark truss rod cover is engraved with the year 1966, the origin of the Yamaha folk guitar, giving it an appearance reminiscent of the FGs of yesteryear. Furthermore, a newly developed semi-gloss paint finish gives the guitar a vintage look, and the smooth feel and comfortable grip of the neck shape ensure high playability. The open-gear pegs, wood-grain pickguard (grade 5 only), and other details have been designed to be simple and durable.
Pursuit of sound optimized for each body type based on acoustic analysis
The "FG/FS Red Label Series" is made of all-solid rosewood, with a front board of Sitka spruce and a side back board of mahogany. The front board is treated with our proprietary Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (A.R.E.) wood modification technology, which produces changes similar to those of wood that has been aged for a long period of time. The result is a rich sound as if the instrument had been played for many years even though it is brand new, and a powerful resonance with the warm mid-low range that only mahogany wood can provide. The bracing is made through a prototyping process that includes the latest acoustic analysis simulation, and a unique scallop process is used for each of the "FG" and "FS" body shapes. Furthermore, the sound was adjusted to suit each body shape in pursuit of a sound optimized for each model. By combining the latest acoustic analysis simulation and skilled craftsmanship, improvements have been made in both sound and quality, resulting in the evolution of the new "FG" and "FS" models.
