USED GIBSON / 1976 MK-53 [05]

The Mark Series was designed by Michael Kerscher and Richard Schneider, and is completely different from Gibson's traditional Jumbo and round-shoulder models.
The Mark Series, with its unique kasha bracing, asymmetrical bridge, and other unique ideas, made a spectacular debut in 1975 as a "new standard," but it was not well received by players at the time, and production was discontinued in 1979, thus ending its short life.
Looking at it again now, the position of the bracing and the shape of the bridge to efficiently transmit the string vibration to the top board are the fruit of tireless analysis and research into the sound, and the structure seems to be worthy of recognition.
This model is not a major model, and is often described as "unique," "a change," or "rare," but it is no wonder that it has a certain number of fans.
MK-53 has a spruce top, maple side/back, 3-piece maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and 25.5" scale.
Although not as loud as the J-200, it has the clear tone and bounce of a maple body.
Overall, there are some signs of use commensurate with its age, including large and small dents and paint cracks on various parts of the body, as well as distortion (swelling) on the top characteristic of kasha bracing.
After the guitar arrived at our store, it was refretted and the nut height was adjusted, including fingerboard correction, the crack between the bridge pinholes was corrected, and the saddle was replaced by our affiliated repair company.
* Unfortunately, it was not possible to make the saddle in the same material and shape as the original, so a new saddle with a wider width was made from cow bone material.
Pickguard and optional saddle are missing.
In the vintage market where the price is getting higher and higher every year, this Mark series is still affordable.
Although not highly original, this is a must have for Gibson fans and those who are considering a vintage acoustic debut.
