This is a 1979 D-40, a model with mahogany sides and back, known for being used by Richie Havens. At the time, it was also known as the Bluegrass Jubilee. The head is decorated with Chesterfield inlays. Unlike the current model, it is not a heavy instrument and does not sound light, but it has horsepower. It is a reliable and attractive instrument that responds well when played with gusto.
There are some dents, scratches, scuffs, cloudy paint, deteriorated plating on metal parts, and rust, but they are commensurate with the age of the instrument. The bridge has been repaired, but some of the surrounding paint is missing. The truss rod cover was missing, so a new one was made by our partner. The neck heel strap pins and L.A. Baggs Anthem SL pickups have been retrofitted since we received the guitar.
The neck is in fair condition, with some wear on the frets, but the fret height is still around 60%, and the sound and playability are perfect. The sound is powerful. You can enjoy the fat sound typical of the guilds of yesteryear.

「往年のギルドならではの野太いサウンド！」

1979年製のD-40です。D-40はリッチー・ヘヴンスが使ったことでも知られるサイド＆バックにマホガニーを採用したモデル。当時はブルーグラス・ジュビリーという別名がありました。ヘッドにはチェスターフィールドのインレイが施されています。現行品と異なりずっしりと重たく、軽快に鳴ってくれるような楽器ではありませんが、馬力があります。ガツンと弾けば、しっかり呼応してくれる頼もしさが魅力です。
打痕、引っ掻き傷、擦り傷、塗膜の曇り、金属部品のメッキの劣化や錆が確認できますが、年式相応と言えるでしょう。ブリッジ剥がれを修理してありますが、一部周囲の塗膜が欠損しています。トラス・ロッド・カバーが欠損していたため、当店提携先にて新規作成いたしました。また、当店入荷時よりネック・ヒールのストラップ・ピンとL.A.Baggs Anthem SLピックアップが後付けされています。
ネックの状態は適正で、フレットには摩耗箇所がありますが、高さは6割前後残っており、演奏性、サウンドともに申し分ありません。パワフルに鳴ります。往年のギルドらしい図太いサウンドをお楽しみいただけます。
