The Yamaha SG, the leader in solid guitars for more than 30 years and a favorite of guitarists around the world, is now available in a dynamically redesigned version!
Three types of SGs with different concepts will create a new wave in the music scene.

Body Material / Neck Joint
The arch shape of the body top has been improved with a steeper curve than before.
The top of the body, where the bridge and tailpiece are located, is made of thick maple to catch string vibrations.
From there, the maple wood is gradually made thinner toward the outer edge of the body to efficiently transmit the string vibrations to the entire body and achieve the optimum weight balance.
We also eliminated the contour cuts found on previous models and prioritized the benefits of a flat back to increase the mass of the mahogany and improve low-mid response.

Fingerboard
As many of the SGs built by the Custom Shop to order by professional guitarists use rosewood fingerboards, the new SG's fingerboard is made of carefully selected high-grade rosewood.
The warm and well-balanced sound produced by this wood is in tune with the contemporary music scene.

IRA (Initial Response Acceleration)
It is said that guitars "sound better" as they are played.
The reason for this is that the stresses that occur between the neck and fingerboard, between the wood and the paint film, and between the wood and the hardware, etc., become accustomed to the guitar as it is played, and the guitar resonates as one.
I.R.A. (Initial Response Acceleration) is a technique that relieves stresses between the paint and wood, etc., by applying vibrations specific to the finished guitar.
This process makes the guitar look as if it has been played.

Pickups
The guitar is equipped with Seymour Duncan SH-1 pickups, which have the smooth midrange and rich treble characteristic of vintage humbucking pickups.
Combined with the SG1820, it produces a warm, deep vintage tone.
