Handmade in Japan, the flagship model FG9 is an acoustic guitar with a very rich volume, clear sound, and a wide range of expressiveness that responds to the player's playing style, making it an ideal instrument for singer-songwriters.

The front board is made of Adirondack spruce, a rare hard and light wood. The backboard is thicker to enhance its performance as a reflector, thereby strengthening the acoustic radiation originating from the frontboard. At the neck-body joint, the neck and body are bolted on in a structure that moderately separates the neck and body, and the design concentrates the vibration energy of the strings and body on the body. This design combines the quick rise and loudness required by the dreadnought style with the clarity that is the hallmark of Yamaha acoustic guitars.

The inner label, visible through the soundhole, is made of Japanese paper, the position markings are handcrafted in Kumiki style, and the soundhole and body line are decorated with rope inlays and rope binding reminiscent of a traditional Japanese Shinto rope.

The FG9R is made of Indian rosewood, which gives the instrument a deeper, more robust bass and extended treble. The FG9M is made of African mahogany, which enhances the traditional mid-bass of the FG and gives it a light, crisp tone. The FG9M is made of African mahogany, which brings out the traditional mid-bass of the FG, and the FG9M has a lighter, more crisp sound.
