Named after Ted McCarty, who made a tremendous contribution to the musical instrument industry, the McCarty model—a collaboration between Paul and Ted—blends PRS technology and design with the essence of legendary instruments from the golden age of electric guitars.

The 22-fret neck, featuring binding, is moderately thick to enhance tone and sustain. It is paired with a two-piece bridge featuring a brass saddle and steel studs,a bone nut, and PRS Phase III tuners with brass shafts—the core specifications of this McCarty 594—along with the newly added McCarty III, inspired by vintage guitars to produce a warm, rich vintage tone. Furthermore, the combination of a push/pull tone knob for coil tapping and a 3-way toggle switch enables a wide range of sound shaping.

The McCarty III pickup embodies all the expertise that Paul Reed Smith and the PRS new product engineering team have cultivated in recent years—from extensive research into vintage pickups to sound analysis and improvements in tuning technology.

In developing the McCarty series, we scrutinized each of these parts and, through repeated trial and error, succeeded in creating a wonderful sound that can only be produced by this model.Just as the pieces of a puzzle fit together perfectly, we completed this model—just like our other models—without making a single compromise,” says Paul Reed Smith.

In the late 1980s, Paul Reed Smith consulted with Ted McCarty on guitar design and craftsmanship, and that collaboration led to the release of the first-generation McCarty in 1994.The McCarty 594 incorporates not only all the techniques and knowledge Paul acquired from Ted but also Paul’s own extensive experience as a guitar builder; it can truly be described as a guitar that seamlessly blends vintage sound with modern playability at the highest level.
