This D-28 was manufactured in 1975, the year "Made in U.S.A. Catalog" was published, which brought American trends to the attention of young people all over Japan. Martin's products were also introduced in the same magazine. For those who spent their youth in those days, this D-28 is a nostalgic model. For the younger generation, the D-28's powerful sound, which has not been seen in acoustic guitars in recent years, may be a new experience. This is the perfect item to recreate the folk, rock, and pop sounds of that era.
There is a crack repair mark from the center of the top to the right, from the bottom of the bridge to the end of the body. The back side of the instrument has been stapled, and the front side has been painted, but depending on the angle you look at it, it may be a little noticeable. There is also a history of Martin crack repair, and a splint has been applied to the back side of the top. The pickguard has been replaced, but it has been beveled and looks more or less like the original.
The neck angle has been adjusted, refretted, the fretboard has been modified, and the nut and saddle have been replaced during the previous owner's ownership. The pigment that stained the fretboard seems to have fallen off with the fretboard modification, exposing some of the laminate. The neck is in fair condition with almost no fret wear, and the string height at the 12th fret is approximately 2.7mm on the 6th string side and 1.7mm on the 1st string side. This is adequate playability for a Martin product of this age.
There is a paint crack on the front side of the headstock around the peg post of the 4th string, a small chip on the back corner of the headstock on the bass string side, a dent on the back of the neck that may have been caused by a stand or capo, and some dings, scratches, and abrasions throughout, but not noticeable damage. There are also some dents, scratches, and scuffs on the entire surface, but not noticeable damage. The plating on the pegs has some tarnishing, but it retains its luster, including the washers.
The case that comes with the guitar is a Martin case, but it has been replaced with a next-generation black case instead of a blue case. There is one spot that looks like it has been melted by heat.
Playability and sound are perfect. Some may have an impression that D-28s of this age have a boomy, fuzzy bass, but this one has a well-balanced sound. It has the horsepower of a non-scalloped brace, but if you relax your playing, you can also bring out a gentle resonance. This is one of our recommendations.
