It gives a sense of depth of sound. The Adirondack spruce top and rosewood sides and back give the guitar typical dynamics, but it sounds supple and not guttural. There is ample volume, but the bass is not overly boomy, and as the concept suggests, it accompanies the song.

It also has a thick core and sustain, making single-note lead guitar work enjoyable. Like the FG9 M, it is a guitar that should not be used only for singing accompaniment. If you were to form an acoustic guitar duo, the lead singer would ideally use the FG9M and the lead guitarist would use the FG9 R.

The flagship model FG9, handmade in Japan, is an acoustic guitar with a very rich volume, clear sound, and a wide range of expressiveness that responds to the player's playing style, making it an ideal instrument for singer-songwriters.

The front board is made of Adirondack spruce, a rare hard and light wood. The backboard is thicker to enhance its performance as a reflector, thereby strengthening the acoustic radiation originating from the frontboard. At the neck-body joint, the neck and body are bolted on in a structure that moderately separates the neck and body, and the design concentrates the vibration energy of the strings and body on the body. This design achieves both the "quick rise and powerful volume" required of the dreadnought style and the "clarity" characteristic of Yamaha's acoustic guitar guitars.

The inner label visible through the soundhole is made of Japanese paper, the position marks are designed to evoke Kumiki work, and the soundhole and body line are decorated with rope inlays and rope binding reminiscent of a traditional Japanese sacred rope.

The "FG9R" is made of Indian rosewood, which produces a deep, rich bass and extended treble. The "FG9M" is made of African mahogany, which enhances the traditional mid-bass of the FG, while providing a light, crisp sound. In addition to the wider range of expression that can be achieved with either model, two different types of wood are used for the side and backboards to achieve two different sound characters.

Although there are some very shallow scratches and dings on the entire body, neck, and head, and there are slight signs of use, the year of manufacture is relatively new, and the overall condition is very clean, with good playability and sound.
The string height is about 2.5mm on the 12th fret of the 6th string.
