Atelier Z began its journey as a Japanese brand in 1989. Since then, it has continued to be loved by many artists, particularly for its active basses that blend vintage and modern styles, and its popularity has skyrocketed in recent years. Gaining traction among younger generations, it is laying the foundation to become a new staple brand.

The model we’ve just received is the Beta 6/32. Based on a signature model previously crafted for studio musician BOH, this is a music store exclusive model that has been revived with a 32-inch scale.
The 2-piece ash body, maple neck, and maple fingerboard are the familiar materials typical of Atelier Z. This model also features 24 frets, offering a rich range of tones.It is equipped with an EMG 6-string PB model pickup and the 45DC, renowned for its rich, full-bodied tone. And perhaps most notably, it features a 32-inch medium scale. In addition to improved playability, it offers exceptional playability in the lower frets. Even those who have never played a 6-string bass before should be able to play it relatively smoothly.
The controls consist of Master Volume, Balancer, Middle, and Treble/Bass. It’s a classic setup that offers all the versatility you need.
The sound is powerful, with a thick, rich low end that drives the entire tone. The solid midrange provides excellent support, and the clear high end ensures there’s nothing to complain about. It handles all genres, from a sound that cuts through a band ensemble to a modern, assertive tone that takes center stage. The Low B note also has outstanding projection.

There are signs of use, including scratches across the body, scattered dents on the body and headstock, and some paint chipping next to the controls.
However, the neck is currently in good condition. The truss rod is a bit stiff but functions normally. The frets show no significant wear, and overall, this is a well-maintained instrument with relatively few signs of use.
