A 1982 Stingray has just arrived!

The Stingray was released as a new-generation electric bass after Leo Fender left Fender, incorporating his expertise in electrical engineering into the instrument itself.
This particular instrument was manufactured during the period commonly known as “Pre-Ernie”—before Music Man was acquired by Ernie Ball in 1983.

Based on specifications such as the four-point neck joint and through-body bridge, as well as the pot dates for Volume, Treble, and Bass, we’ve determined it to be a 1982 model.
Although it lacks contouring and weighs 4.94 kg—which is on the heavy side for a 4-string bass—it is characterized by a tight, punchy sound, likely due to this very weight.

Stingrays from this era typically feature a logo-marked joint plate, but since this one has a plate without a logo, it appears to have been replaced.
Additionally, while the internal electronics have not been replaced, the screws on the control panel have been replaced.
The mute sponge is missing.

Overall, there are signs of wear, including numerous dents and scratches, and the metal parts have lost some of their luster.
The frets are set relatively low, but the truss rod currently has room to adjust in either direction, and the neck is in good enough condition for playing.
