A 1963 SG Junior featuring an Ultra Light Aged finish by Murphy Lab, designed and produced exclusively for Japan in 2024.
Featuring a rugged design with a single P-90 pickup, this guitar has captivated guitarists of all generations as the ultimate rock 'n' roll companion.

The body is made of one-piece mahogany, and the neck features a one-piece mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard. All wood joints are glued using hide glue.
The neck shape is the "Authentic '63 Medium C-Shape," which is slightly thicker than standard SG necks and offers a secure grip. The fret markers are dots. The headstock features a silk-screened "Gibson" logo.

It is equipped with a single "Custom Dog-Ear P90 Underwound" pickup and features clean electronics with a single volume and tone control. Weighing a very light 2.8 kg, combined with the pickup, this is a superb instrument offering tight bass response and thick, resilient mid-to-high frequencies with a distinct bite.

The finish is a subdued and atmospheric "Cherry Red," treated with Murphy Lab’s "Ultra Light Aged" finish—the lightest of their four-tier aging options.

The condition is relatively good; aside from the aging treatment by Murphy Lab, there are minor scuffs from use and a large dent on the neck joint.

Murphy Lab, established within the Custom Shop, is an aging division where a team of artisans led by Tom Murphy—a vintage expert and pioneer of aging—creates innovative aged products using new technologies.

A founding member of the Gibson Custom Shop and a key figure in the development of the Historic Collection, Tom Murphy has since made a name for himself through the art of aging—a technique that brings a vintage look and feel to brand-new guitars.

During that time, he has contributed to the aging of models for many legends, including Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Slash, Joe Walsh, Billy Gibbons, Joe Perry, Peter Frampton, Dickey Betts, and Gary Rossington.

Tom Murphy and Gibson scientifically analyzed the nitrocellulose lacquers from the 1950s and 1960s—which, by their very nature, develop cracks known as "weather checking" beneath the finish over time—to unravel the process of this aging. Through repeated testing on prototypes of every model, they developed a lacquer process that reproduces natural weather checking just like vintage guitars.

Murphy Lab products are innovative aged finishes based on the Historic Collection, fusing this new lacquer process with the hand-aging techniques Tom Murphy has refined over many years. They deliver the look, feel, and sense of ownership of a vintage instrument at an unprecedented level.
