USED GIBSON / Dove Custom Ebony [06]

A 1978 Dove Custom in sharp black has arrived in player's condition!
The Dove was introduced as a higher-end model than Gibson’s square-shoulder Hummingbird. It features luxurious embellishments, such as a pickguard adorned with dove and flower motifs and double parallelogram inlays on the fingerboard.

It features a spruce top with maple sides and back, and a 3-piece maple neck with an ebony fingerboard—a specification common in the 1970s. While it originally featured unique specifications such as a TOM bridge, this particular instrument was produced after the model switched to the standard saddle configuration.

After it arrived, we performed the following work in our workshop: neck straightening, fret leveling, bridge re-gluing, fingerboard re-gluing near the high frets, joint touch-ups, filling two nut grooves, saddle replacement, bridge top surface machining, gluing two blocks, repairing three back bracing issues, and a full setup.

That said, the neck currently exhibits slight waviness. Additionally, the nut and frets have been replaced; the frets are set slightly low, so the string action may feel a bit high, but all frets are playable as-is. The area on the bridge base that holds the endpin has been rebuilt. The saddle has also been replaced and set lower, but due to the bulging of the body top, the string action cannot be set much lower.

Externally, the guitar shows numerous scratches and dents overall and is in “player’s condition.” The top of the body has areas worn down from picking. There are cracks in the finish along the 3-piece neck joint. Touch-up marks are visible near the joints of the neck and fingerboard, including the top of the body.
However, even when covered in scratches, it still looks great—a trait unique to Gibson’s ebony-colored models. This is a guitar with a distinctive character.
