In addition to John Suhr's classic flame maple top/basswood back body combination, the new J Select Standard Plus features a loated maple neck that is highly resistant to temperature and humidity changes and also has a unique resonance. The light sound of the loaed maple is combined with the characteristic smoothness and mid-range of the basswood to create the perfect tonal balance. Perferro is used for the fingerboard.
The bridge pickup is a classic SSH Plus, and the combined single-coil pickups are ML Standard neck/middle pickups, which started out as hand-wound reproductions of pickups from Mike Landau's '63 ST. The pickups are juicier and hotter than other vintage pickups, yet still retain a sparkle. A push/push switch coil-tap control on the bridge pickup further expands the sound variation.

There are some scratches on the back contour of the body, and overall, there are only minor scratches and scuffs. The fingerboard is in good condition with no noticeable damage, although there are some dark spots on the fingerboard surface from use.

The neck is in good condition.
Truss rod can be adjusted in both directions.
Over 80% frets remaining.
String height on the 12th fret: 1st string: approx. 1.5mm, 6th string: approx. 2.0mm
