A 2023 Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue has arrived.
This is the Ultra Light Aged version from the Murphy Lab Collection.
The finish color is Golden Poppy Burst, a shade rarely seen in recent standard production models.
While this G.P. Burst falls under the Lemon Burst color family, it is not a burst color that mimics the fading and discoloration of aged guitars like Dirty Lemon or Double Dirty Lemon. Instead, the subtle fading that faintly hints at the burst layers that once existed makes this a truly beautiful instrument.
The aging grade is Ultra Light Aged.
While recent U.L. Aged finishes tend to feature a delicate, subtle, and refined crackle finish, the crackle on this piece is deeper and more boldly expresses the cracking of the paint film.
The cracks on the backside, in particular, are exceptional when combined with the faded cherry color, so I can’t help but consider this a truly exceptional Ultra-Light Aged Golden Poppy Burst.
Regarding the progression of its exterior condition, because this is a Murphy Lab Aged model, it is difficult to determine the extent of its use for playing; therefore, this report is based on our best estimation.
As for the product grade, due to the circumstances mentioned above, we’ve listed it as B+ condition, but it feels like a beautiful, well-maintained instrument.
As such, there are no signs of heavy use or rough handling, so this may be a rare used instrument that was never subjected to serious playing.
Additionally, there are no unusual marks on the control components, so it appears to be in full original condition—including the pickups—with no soldering ever done.
Parts that may have been replaced
The original jack plate, which is prone to breakage, may have been replaced with a thicker, ’50s-style version. However, this replacement might actually offer slightly better durability.
