Released in 2013—the 20th anniversary of the Custom Shop’s founding—this 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue, commonly known as the R9, was introduced during a period when numerous refinements were made to the Historic Collection.Featuring the traditional configuration of a maple top, mahogany back, mahogany neck, and rosewood fingerboard, the 2013 model incorporates updates designed to capture vintage specifications, including neck gluing with Hot Hide Glue, a tubeless Historic Truss Rod, Aniline Dye, and Kluson Deluxe tuners.

Both the front and rear pickups are mesh-wired and shielded, featuring PAF stickers. While the 2013 R9 came standard with Custom Buckers, it appears that some Custom Buckers from this period lacked the model name on the pickup body and featured only the PAF sticker. This guitar is equipped with pickups that match the specifications of that era.

It comes with a “Hand Selected” certificate of authenticity, which lists “LPR9 WS AB.” The serial number is 933086, confirming it was manufactured in 2013. The top, with its beautifully highlighted figured maple grain, is particularly striking, and this guitar exudes the distinctive elegance unique to the Historic Collection, cultivated over many years.
Some metal parts show signs of wear and discoloration. There is a faint black scratch on the neck binding at the 15th fret on the 6th string side.
There are numerous fine scratches on the back panel. There is a black linear scratch on the cutaway. The neck binding shows some color transfer from the dye on the back.
There are also some minor scratches and dents, but no major or conspicuous damage is visible.
There are no noticeable issues with the neck, and it is in good playing condition.
Condition Grade: B+: Some scratches are present, but the instrument is suitable for normal use.
