USED Hofner / 500/1 1967 Sunburst [12]

A 1967 violin bass is now in stock.
This is a 1967 model 500/1 from the German B-bass maker Hofner, which is so famous for being used by Paul McCartney of the Beatles.

The year of manufacture is determined by the 250K177 (=1967) on the control plate and the raised logo that was used from around 1964 to the 1970s.

Two original 513B pickups are installed, and the electrical parts are also kept in original condition.

The nut has been replaced with a black/white/black type, the neck grip has been refinished in black, and there is a mark on the side of the neck on the 4th string side with a magic pen.

The hollowbody, flatwound strings, and short scale give it a warm sound similar to that of a wood bass, and the sound has become deeper and more atmospheric over the past 60 years.
The pickup mount screws have been replaced (original missing), and the binding has been set up and maintained at our affiliated repair store, including the correction of the floating binding at the neck of the body on the 4th string side.
There is a mark on the side of the body on the 4th string side that looks like it has been scraped, and the paint is peeling.
There is also a circular peeling of paint on the lower part of the body back.
There is a paint crack on the heel of the neck and a slight bump on the binding at the neck joint.
The pickguard is original, but the L-shaped bracket to fix it to the body side is missing.
Overall, there are numerous scratches, dings, and weather checks scattered throughout the instrument due to its age, but playability is good.
