USED Gibson / 1964 SG Special Modified Cherry Red [12]

We’ve received an SG Special that’s been modified to feature a stop tailpiece.
Introduced in 1961 as a model positioned between the Junior and Standard models of the SG series, the SG Special is known for its appealing sound—a blend of the rich, full-bodied tone and crisp, snappy attack provided by the P-90 pickups.

The instrument we’ve just received was manufactured in 1964, as indicated by its serial number. It has been modified from a stop-bar bridge, and its dignified appearance—evidently the result of years of heavy use—is truly in “player’s condition.” This is a guitar that retains all the charm of a instrument that has been used in real-world performances.

The pickups and pots are original, and the pot date confirms they were manufactured in 1963.

The anchor holes from the original stopbar bridge have been filled with wood filler, and a new bridge and tailpiece have been installed. The bridge is an ABR-1 from the mid-1960s or later, featuring the “Relief” patent number, and the tailpiece is made of aluminum.

There are touch-up marks, and the tuning pegs, frets, nut, knobs, and various screws have been replaced.
The frets have been filed down and have about 7-bun of life remaining; the neck is in good condition, and the truss rod is adjustable.
The hard case is missing, but a Gibson gig bag is included.
