The SE Custom 24, favored by countless musicians, features a mahogany back, a maple top, a Wide Thin-profile maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, bird inlays, and a PRS-designed tremolo bridge.
It is equipped with 85/15 “S” pickups, along with volume and push/pull tone controls, and a 3-way blade pickup selector, delivering a clear and beautiful sound across the entire frequency range from low to high.
The SE Custom 24 combines classic and modern elements, offering high durability and a wide range of tones.

About the PRS SE
Development began when legendary guitarist Carlos Santana—who had been using PRS guitars as his main instruments since around 1982—proposed the idea: “Can we create a guitar that offers PRS’s high quality at an affordable price that even students can afford?” This led to the announcement of the first-generation SE model, the “Santana SE,” in 2001. Consequently, the SE series is an abbreviation for “Student Edition” and “Santana Edition.”
Following repeated upgrades and quality improvements, the SE series is no longer merely a budget version; it has evolved into a highly refined guitar praised as “a guitar that can actually be used in professional settings,” establishing itself as a series that expands the appeal and options of PRS Guitars. Production of the SE series began in Indonesia in 2019, resulting in even higher quality than before, and today, there are even collectors dedicated to the SE series.
While there are differences in wood quality, finishes, and parts compared to PRS guitars made in the U.S., PRS headquarters frequently dispatches engineers to provide direct guidance. As a result, the production line now follows the same manufacturing process as the U.S. factory.The woods and parts specifically prepared and developed for the PRS SE Series have been optimized with the goal of “how to achieve the best sound quality while keeping costs down,” and as a result, the specifications continue to evolve and improve year after year. This reflects the “philosophy” of guitar craftsman Paul Reed Smith, just as in the U.S.-made models, and this is the very essence and appeal of PRS guitars.
PRS SE Finish and Design
PRS features beautifully carved arched shapes, stunningly gorgeous wood grain, and well-balanced cutaway and headstock designs. While paying homage to vintage guitars, the aesthetic beauty of each series—presented as PRS’s new interpretation—possesses a level of elegance that other brands simply cannot replicate.
The finish and color schemes further enhance these magnificent designs. While the PRS SE series uses polyester/urethane finishes, guitars with flame or quilted tops are colored using a technique called “base-staining” before the topcoat is applied, to make the wood grain stand out even more.This technique, epitomized by PRS, involves applying a specially formulated dye directly to the wood using a cloth or similar material, making the wood grain stand out even more. Of course, since the wood naturally has its own variations in shade, the finish isn’t uniform across the entire surface; however, the fact that the wood grain appears distinctly more pronounced compared to other brands is a hallmark of PRS.
