The PRS Standard is based on the all-mahogany guitars created by Paul Reed Smith during his pre-factory period. The all-mahogany design gives the guitar a warm mid-range tone, which is one of the model's main characteristics. The ultra-thin lacquer satin finish brings a beauty that stands out for its quality and solidity.

The PRS Standard 24 also features many of the PRS' classic features, including a 25-inch scale, 24 frets, a 10-inch radius rosewood fingerboard, a patterned thinneck shape, the original PRS tremolo, and Phase III tuners.
The electronics include volume and tone controls, a 5-way blade switch, and PRS's newly developed DMO treble and bass pickups (Dynamic, Musical, Open). The DMO pickups (Dynamic, Musical, Open) combine the colorful and expansive sound characteristics of vocals with a transparent, modern sound across a wide frequency range, from low to high frequencies.

Designed by Paul Reed Smith and the PRS new product engineering team, this pickup incorporates all of the expertise gained in recent product development, from the long study of vintage pickups to improved pickup sound analysis and tuning techniques. The PRS Standard is the first of its kind in the world.
