A used 1967 Gibson ES-355TDSV Burgundy Metallic Red has just arrived!!

Serial No.: 872739; this is a 1967 model.

This guitar was manufactured at the Kalamazoo, Michigan factory and features a narrow neck with a nut width of approximately 39mm. It is constructed with laminated maple (maple/poplar/maple) for the top, back, and sides; a one-piece mahogany neck; an ebony fingerboard; a maple center block; and spruce bracing. The neck joint utilizes a long tenon joint.

The headstock features Grover Rotomatic-style “Milk Bottle” tuners—marked with “PAT.PEND.U.S.A.” and adorned with diamond-split inlays, a hallmark of top-of-the-line models—as well as a truss rod cover stamped with “STEREO.”

The narrow neck boasts luxurious details, including mother-of-pearl block inlays and single-ply binding. The frets have been replaced, ensuring excellent playability. Although the screw heads on the tuning pegs rest directly against the headstock ears, causing a slight crack in the wood beneath them, the pegs are currently secure and do not affect tuning.

It is equipped with two sticker-numbered (T-TOP) pickups. The pots are covered, so we were unable to verify the pot dates or solder work; therefore, we cannot confirm that these are original. * There is a slight scratchy sound from the front volume control. Additionally, there appears to have been a plastic plate attached beneath the pickups, resulting in uneven discoloration.

The baritone switch, which functions as a 6-step bass-cut filter, still operates reliably, and the jack has been modified from a stereo output to a mono output, making it a user-friendly configuration.

The tailpiece features a Maestro Long Vibro-Roller engraved with the rail logo used from 1963 onward, and the bridge is an ABR-1 with a nylon saddle and retainer bearing a patent number.

Replaced parts include the nut, frets, one knob, pickguard, jack, and rear escutcheon. The binding is peeling in places.

The finish is “Sparkling Burgundy,” a rare color that, although added to the standard lineup in 1967, was produced in overwhelmingly small quantities. Even now, more than half a century later, it retains its reddish hue, suggesting it was stored in a hard case for a long time.

Overall, there are scratches and dents from use, peeling around the binding, and weather checking and discoloration in the finish; however, playability—including the truss rod—is good. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to consider purchasing this guitar.
