USED WAL / MK-1 Wenge [05]

We’ve just received a 1991 Wal MK-I Wenge Fretless—a British treasure that has even been hailed as the “Rolls-Royce of basses.”

Featuring a mahogany core laminated with a wenge top—a classic combination for the brand—this model is a lined fretless with an ebony fingerboard.

The circuit—which appears to be inspired by Alembic—allows you to switch between a mid-control filter and a high-cut filter. The “Pick Attack Mode” is particularly outstanding, producing a unique effect where pulling the volume knob independently adds presence.

When it arrived, the circuitry was in terrible shape, but we sent it to Wal to have it replaced with a brand-new unit, so you won’t have to worry about the electronics for quite some time.
We’ve also meticulously restored the body, bringing it back to a condition that’s almost unrecognizable from its original state.
We spent over half a year on this restoration, completing it with meticulous care, so please come see it in person and experience the finest British sound.
