The Rickenbacker Model 381V69 has arrived.
Manufactured in the USA in 2018, it features a chic, opaque Jet Glow finish.
Although this guitar is now in its eighth year, it shows no signs of heavy use and is in pristine condition.
Furthermore, there are no signs of rough handling, so you might consider it to be in excellent used condition.
However, fine scratches caused by polishing during maintenance are noticeable across the entire surface.
Furthermore, the hand-carved arched shape along the outer edges of the top and back of the body—which, like a German curve, forms a three-dimensional, deep, and narrow indentation—contains some polishing marks that could not be fully removed during the manufacturing buffing process (mirror finish).
However, since this is a deep navy-blue opaque black color, it is difficult to avoid the scratches becoming more noticeable depending on the angle of sunlight or artificial lighting.

Exterior Condition
In addition to polishing-related scratches, there are a few other scratches, but they are minor.
The metal parts show some age-related tarnish and early signs of deterioration, but this is inherent to the nature of nickel plating and actually gives it a rugged, cool look. (Chrome plating, by comparison, is relatively shiny.)
Additionally, there is paint peeling caused by an impact mark (area: less than 2 mm wide, less than 15 mm long) on the edge of the “Cat’s Eye Hole” (a nickname for the soundhole) on the 6th-string side of the body top; however, since it has been touched up, it is hardly noticeable from a distance.
However, these are natural signs of use that will inevitably increase the more you play at home or with a band. We hope that, as you continue to play this cherished instrument, these marks will evolve into badges of honor that reflect your own personal history with it.

Additionally, regarding the creation of the Model 381, it is said that Roger Rossmeisl—who was Rickenbacker’s lead designer (luthier)—was inspired by traditional violin-making techniques, as he was originally from Germany.
With its luxuriously carved maple body featuring a three-dimensional German curve, an arched shape that combines gentleness and smoothness, and checkerboard binding, I cannot help but feel that this is a special model that exudes a noble and elegant dignity.
