In addition to the highly regarded Blackface configuration found in Pro Co RAT models, this unit features the LM308N op-amp at its core. It delivers the quintessential “vintage RAT” sound—a blend of gritty, raw distortion and a slightly sticky, compressive feel—making it a truly captivating pedal. While it offers impressive power as a distortion pedal, turning down the gain allows for an overdrive-style sound that retains its richness, making it versatile enough to excel across a wide range of genres.

The controls feature a simple layout: Distortion, Filter, and Volume. The unique Filter control, which cuts high frequencies, allows for intuitive sound shaping—ranging from a sharp edge to a dark, rich tone.

This era marks the transition from the RAT 1 to the RAT 2, and since this particular unit does not feature an LED, its feel is closer to the earlier models—another appealing aspect.
