A 1992 Les Paul Custom built in the year leading up to the establishment of the Custom Shop.
Built just before the launch of the Gibson Custom Shop in 1993, the first thing that catches the eye on this particular instrument is the top, which features exceptionally beautiful figured maple. Combined with the Honey Burst finish, it exudes a distinct, elegant charm that sets it apart from other Les Paul Customs.

Featuring the classic Les Paul Custom specifications—an ebony fingerboard with block inlays, multi-ply binding, and gold hardware—it boasts a substantial, robust appearance from the body top to the headstock. Its distinctive presence, characteristic of early ’90s Gibson guitars, is another major appeal.

It is equipped with two humbuckers stamped “Gibson USA.” The wiring uses braided shielded wire, and the controls follow a classic configuration: two volume knobs, two tone knobs, and a 3-way selector switch. The pots are stamped “R1379209” and “R1379235,” indicating they are CTS pots with codes believed to signify a 1992 manufacturing date.

Above all, this particular guitar makes a striking impression when you actually hold it in your hands. While it possesses the substantial presence characteristic of a Les Paul Custom, the Honey Burst finish and expressive maple top offer a charm distinct from the typical black-finished Custom models.

The year of manufacture—1992—the historical context of the year before the Custom Shop was established, and this top wood all combine to make this a Les Paul Custom that stands out even among Gibson guitars from the ’90s.
The frets are relatively new and appear to have been refretted; the exact date of this work is unknown.
There is a chip in the clear coat on the top binding near the cutaway. The body back and sides show paint chips and peeling. The metal hardware exhibits plating wear, verdigris, and other signs of aging. Additionally, there are scratches and dents throughout the guitar, and it shows signs of wear consistent with its age.
There are no noticeable issues with the neck, and it is in good playing condition.
