The FG9, a flagship model handcrafted in Japan, is an acoustic guitar with a rich volume, clear tone, and a wide range of expressiveness that responds to the player’s style—making it the ideal instrument for singer-songwriters.

The top is crafted from Adirondack spruce, a rare, hard, and lightweight wood. By increasing the thickness of the back to enhance its performance as a reflector, the acoustic radiation from the top is amplified. The neck-to-body joint features a bolt-on construction that provides just the right amount of separation between the neck and body, allowing the vibrational energy from the strings and the body to be concentrated within the body.It successfully combines the “quick attack and powerful volume” expected of a Dreadnought style with the “clarity” characteristic of Yamaha acoustic guitars.

The inner label visible through the soundhole is made of washi paper; the position marks feature a design reminiscent of traditional Japanese wood joinery; and the lines of the soundhole and body are accented with rope inlays and rope binding reminiscent of traditional Japanese shimenawa.

The “FG9R” features Indian rosewood, producing deeper, more substantial bass and resonant treble.The “FG9M” uses African mahogany, which further enhances the FG’s traditional mid-to-low range while allowing for a light, crisp tone. Regardless of which model you choose, you’ll find a broader range of expressive possibilities; furthermore, by using two different types of wood for the sides and back, we’ve achieved two distinct sound characters.
