This limited-edition model was produced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of the “FG180,” Yamaha’s first folk guitar, which debuted in 1966.

Featuring a classic design reminiscent of the original FG180, it includes the iconic “Red Label”—a hallmark of the first-generation FG180—as well as a wide Yamaha logo using the same font as the early models, and a pickguard and bridge shape faithfully recreated from the original.

Key specifications include an A.R.E.-treated solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany sides and back, a mahogany neck, a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, a 650mm scale length, and a nut width of approximately 44mm.

As for its condition, there are dents, scratches, and some tarnish on the metal parts, and it shows signs of aging and wear commensurate with its age.

There is moderate swelling beneath the bridge on the top, and the neck is very slightly bowing forward, resulting in a slightly high string action. Partly due to this, the string action at the 12th fret is slightly high, measuring approximately 3.0 mm on the 6th string side and approximately 2.3 mm on the 1st string side.

The truss rod has been tested for movement up to 60 degrees in both directions, and there are currently no issues with its adjustment function. The frets maintain sufficient height for playing, with approximately 70% of their original depth remaining.

It comes with the original hard case and a truss rod adjustment wrench.

Recreating the design of the original FG180 while incorporating modern Yamaha technologies such as A.R.E. treatment and an all-solid construction, this is a special instrument unique to the 50th-anniversary edition.
