A 1974 Mustang has just arrived.
This particular model is a sunburst Mustang featuring specifications unique to the mid-1970s.
It represents a period when the Mustang’s specifications were evolving in a way distinct from the 1960s, making it a model that captures the transitional era of vintage Fender.

It is equipped with two original gray-bobbin pickups.
The date codes are 1899x for the front and 73774 for the bridge; while the bridge pickup is an original 1974 model, the front pickup may not be from 1974 but could be a stock part from a different year that was installed.

The pot dates are 1377429 for the volume and 1377429 for the tone, indicating they are original 1974 parts.
There are no signs of solder repairs, and the guitar retains its original condition.

Based on the specifications of the string guides, this guitar is believed to be from mid-1974 or later.
Since no parts that can be definitively identified as from 1975 have been found, we have determined this to be a 1974 model.

There is one point to note regarding identification.
While we have confirmed that it features a genuine 1970s Fender neck, the logo decal and finish differ from the specifications of that era, making it somewhat difficult to determine whether it is an original 1974 neck.
The guitar has been refretted and re-nuted; it retains a vintage feel while being in excellent playing condition.

There are signs that the tuning pegs were once replaced, but they have since been restored to what appear to be the original parts.
Holes, likely drilled during a previous replacement, can be seen at both ends of the tuning pegs on the 6th and 1st string sides.
Additionally, the tuner for the 1st string is slightly stiff.

The body features a sunburst finish with a look characteristic of the 1970s.
Due to its age, the guitar shows overall signs of wear, including scratches, dents, peeling paint, and weather checking.
Although it shows signs of use, it has a dignified, vintage-style appearance.

The original silver case is included.
Due to aging, the sliding latch on the hardware no longer locks automatically when closing the case.
When closing the case, you will need to manually slide the latch to lock it.
There are no issues with the latch’s opening, closing, or locking functions, and it does not interfere with normal use.
Also, the key is missing.

The sound is a crisp, snappy single-coil tone characteristic of the Mustang, yet it also features a warmth and rich tone not found in current Mustang models.
