1976年製 Gibson BYRDLAND Natural が入荷致しました。
ビリー・バードとハンク・ガーランドの名前を冠したギブソン初のアーチトップ・エレクトリック・ギターとして1955年に市場に登場したバードランド。
高級機種のL-5CESを元にシンボディ、ショートスケールを採用しており、ボディにはスプルースのソリッド削り出しをトップ/サイド/バック使用し、メイプル/ウォルナット/メイプルのネックにエボニー指板のウッドマテリアル。
高級モデルであるBYRDLAND。ヘッドにはKluson製 Sealfast ペグを使用し、5プライのマルチバインディングや輝くトーチ・インレイが施されております。
マルチバインディングが施された3ピースネックには70年代らしいボリュートがあり、Mother of Pearlのブロックインレイや高級アーチトップで良く採用される指板エンドの窄まった装飾が施されており、Gibsonのアーチザンによる匠な技が伺えます。
2 1/4インチ厚のボディには7プライのマルチバインディングやFホールバインディングが施され、高級機種として細部にまで装飾されております。
ピックアップには刻印ナンバードを2基搭載。ポットにはカバーがありデイトを読むことが出来ませんでした。
ブリッジには底面が削られフラットになったリテイナー付きABR-1を使用。
ピックガードは交換されており、割れ修正がございます。
テールピースにはバードランド専用のゴールドメッキのバードランドテールピースを使用。
フレットはオリジナルで残り約7割ほど、トラスロッドも左右問題なく効くことを確認しております。
丁寧に扱われていたようで、使用に伴う傷や打痕などありますが、特に大きなダメージはなく問題なくお使い頂けます。
本機の謎が1つあり、ハードケースに「J BATTEN」とスプレーされ、ボディ内に「？？？ Batten」と書かれたマスキングテープが貼られております。
もしかしたらマイケル・ジャクソンやジェフ・ベックと共演したギタリスト、ジェニファー・バトゥンの所有機であった可能性がありますが、本人がバードランドを持った写真が無い為、詳細は不明となります。

We are pleased to announce the arrival of a 1976 Gibson BYRDLAND Natural.
The Byrdland, named after Billy Byrd and Hank Garland, was Gibson's first archtop electric guitar and was introduced to the market in 1955.
Based on the high-end L-5CES model, it has a thin body and short scale, and the body is made of solid machined spruce top/side/back, and the neck is made of maple/walnut/maple with an ebony fingerboard.
The high-end BYRDLAND model features Kluson Sealfast pegs on the head, 5-ply multi-binding, and shiny torch inlays.
The multi-bound 3-piece neck has a '70s-style volute, Mother of Pearl block inlays, and the stenosed fingerboard ends often found on high-end archtops, showing the master craftsmanship of Gibson's archisans.
The 2 1/4" thick body has 7-ply multi-binding and f-hole binding, and is decorated in every detail as a high-end model.
Two engraved numbered pickups are mounted. The pots have covers and the date could not be read.
The bridge is an ABR-1 with a retainer whose bottom surface has been shaved and flattened.
The pickguard has been replaced and has a crack correction.
The tailpiece is a gold plated Birdland tailpiece specially made for Birdland.
The frets are original with about 70% remaining, and we have confirmed that the truss rod works fine on both sides.
It seems to have been handled with care, and although there are some scratches and dings from use, there are no major damages and it can be used without any problems.
There is one mystery about this unit: the hard case is sprayed "J BATTEN" and inside the body there is a "? Batten" is written on the masking tape.
It may have been owned by Jennifer Batten, a guitarist who played with Michael Jackson and Jeff Beck, but there are no photos of her holding the Birdland, so details are unknown.
