A used 1996 Gibson Les Paul Custom has arrived in stock.
The Les Paul Custom, introduced to the market in 1954, features an ebony finish—chosen to make a guitarist’s hands stand out against a tuxedo—and gold hardware, which was adopted as a premium feature on the Les Paul Standard.
Initially equipped with a P-480 pickup and a P-90 pickup, the model was upgraded to a dual-humbucker configuration in 1957 with the development of the P-490 pickup—still highly popular today under the nickname “PAF.”
Subsequently, in 1961, the Les Paul model evolved into the SG model, but in response to market demand, it reappeared in 1968 with a maple-top, mahogany-back configuration.

This instrument is a “Les Paul Custom Ebony” that carries on the specifications from its 1968 reintroduction.
The body features a two-piece maple top and a one-piece mahogany back, while the neck is made of mahogany with an ebony fingerboard; weight relief has been applied to reduce the instrument’s weight.

The headstock features the Gibson logo and diamond-split inlays, is equipped with Grover Rotomatic-style tuners, and has a replaced truss rod cover.
The bound neck, featuring block inlays, has 22 medium-jumbo frets and a slightly thinner neck profile designed for superior playability.

The body, wrapped in multi-color binding, shows weather checking due to age.
The hardware is finished in a luxurious gold and includes a Nashville-style Tune-o-Matic bridge and a stopbar tailpiece. The tailpiece studs have been replaced with FIXER studs, the jack plate is gold, the strap pins are now locking-style, and the control knobs and toggle switch have been replaced.

The pickups have been replaced with a SUHR Doug Aldrich Set. All electronic components—including the volume and tone pots, capacitors, and wiring—have been replaced.

Overall, the guitar shows significant signs of use, with numerous scratches, dents, paint fading, weather checking, and replacement parts; however, it functions perfectly. Approximately 60% of the frets remain, and the truss rod turns 60 degrees in both directions—no string buzz.
