A 1967 Gibson EB-2D Sparkling Burgundy has arrived!!

Serial No.: 310088; this is a 1967 model.

A Gibson "EB-2" hollow-body electric bass featuring a rare color. Introduced in the 1966 catalog, this new bass model—equipped with a bass/baritone switch—was available in single-pickup and double-pickup configurations, as well as in Sunburst and Cherry finishes.

Based on the serial number, this instrument is a 1967 "Second" model. * It bears the "2" Second stamp.

The body features laminated maple arched top, back, and sides, paired with a mahogany neck and a rosewood fingerboard. The set-neck construction features a long tenon and is joined at the 18th fret.

The headstock, featuring crown inlays, is equipped with Kluson chrome tuners and a 3-ply truss rod cover.

The unbound neck has a nut width of 38 mm and features a 30 1/2-inch scale length—the same as the EB-0 and EB-3—along with jumbo frets.

The 16-inch-wide body features a 1.5-inch-thick semi-acoustic construction; the rear pickup cavity has no window, only a hole for routing wiring.

The pickups consist of a large-coil pickup in the front position and a sticker-numbered mini humbucker in the rear position; although a bass/baritone switch is present, the baritone mechanism has been removed and is non-functional.

The bridge has been replaced, changing from a combination type to a stopbar tailpiece type; there are marks around the studs where modifications were made during the replacement. The control knobs have been replaced, and there are wood repairs and touch-ups around the jack.

The finish is “Sparkling Burgundy,” a rare color that first appeared around 1965; over time, the reddish tones have faded, resulting in a brown-gold hue.

Overall, the guitar shows significant signs of use, including weather checking on the finish, dents, scratches, and wood repairs; however, it functions perfectly. Approximately 70% of the frets remain, and we have confirmed that the truss rod turns 60 degrees in both directions. The rear pickup fence is missing.
