USED Fender Custom Shop / Limited Edition Char Signature Stratocaster Charizma [05]

We have received the “Charizma,” a signature model by “Char”—a guitarist who continues to be one of Japan’s leading figures—limited to 200 units worldwide.

This special signature model was developed to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Char’s debut as one of Japan’s leading guitarists. Planning for this model began behind the scenes around 2010 and was brought to fruition through close collaboration between Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Paul Waller and Char himself.

This instrument combines the characteristics of Char’s beloved 1959 Stratocaster (Burgundy Mist Metallic) and a Custom Shop 1961 Stratocaster (Daphne Blue), and was crafted with the goal of creating his ideal guitar. Every detail—from the neck profile and pickups to the finish—has undergone rigorous testing and refinement.

The neck features the “Char’s ’59 Strat C-Shape,” based on actual measurements of the ’59 and CS ’61 Strats, balancing a comfortable grip with excellent playability. Furthermore, the 9.5-inch radius fingerboard and 22-fret configuration combine a vintage feel with modern playability.

In addition to standard dot inlays, the position marks feature crescent-shaped inlays at the 3rd fret of the 5th string and the 5th fret of the 3rd string—a unique design symbolizing both the initial “C” of Char’s name and the musical note “C.”

The body is crafted from two-piece premium alder, designed with a focus on balance with the neck. It is equipped with three hand-wound pickups designed by Paul Waller, which draw on the characteristics of a 1959 Stratocaster to deliver a distinctive sound that combines warmth and richness.

One of the defining features of this model is its body color, which uses the traditional Japanese shade “Ginbōtake.” This marks the first time in Fender’s history that this color has been used; the pale yellowish-brown hue harmonizes beautifully with the maple neck and gold logo, creating an elegant and distinctive aesthetic.

Additionally, the neck plate is engraved with the Takenaka family crest and a unique serial number, while the back plate features a shortened design for enhanced practicality. Furthermore, the mint green three-ply pickguard completes the vintage-inspired look.

From the development stage through to completion, Char himself personally conducted testing and final inspections, making this a model that represents a high-level fusion of the musician’s perspective and the manufacturer’s technical expertise. As such, the “Charizma” is more than just a signature guitar; it is an exceptionally well-crafted instrument that embodies Fender’s tradition, Japanese culture, and the artist’s individuality.

Although there was a scratch on the lower part of the body, after we purchased it, our repair center performed a full adjustment, cleaning, and buffing, bringing it to very good condition.
