A 1971 Fender Mustang Competition Burgundy has arrived!!

This 1971 model features the following serial number: 385712, pot date: 304-7116, and neck date: 16SEP71B.

The Fender Mustang Competition is a special edition model of the Mustang that debuted in the late 1960s. With its retro, pop-inspired look and unique specifications, it remains a highly popular series to this day. This particular guitar is Burgundy. The topcoat has weathered over time, giving it a greenish tint—a look that’s undeniably cool.

Neck Date: 16SEP71B; neck thickness is approximately 22.6 mm at the 1st fret and approximately 24.5 mm at the 12th fret. The neck shows signs of modification to the joint screw holes.

The body is original, but there are marks on the underside of the pickguard that look like it was sanded. The pickups have gray bobbins. Although the date is faint and difficult to read, they are likely original. All other electrical components—including the switch, pots, and capacitors—are original.

Replaced parts include some saddle screws and the 1st-string saddle.

As for the condition, there are scratches and dents commensurate with its age, and the tone control has some slight squeaking. Since the potentiometer is original, I have not replaced it, but I do not believe there are any operational issues. Additionally, while there is significant wear on some frets, the instrument is currently in good playing condition.
