A used model in the Journeyman Relic finish—reminiscent of “Blackie”—created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Eric Clapton Stratocaster has arrived!

This model was produced in a limited run in 2018 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of the Eric Clapton Stratocaster by Fender. While Clapton models typically feature a polyurethane finish even when made by the Custom Shop, this instrument is a special edition with a lacquer finish treated with the Journeyman Relic process. Furthermore, the color is a black reminiscent of “Blackie,” the guitar Clapton used to play, and this combination is available exclusively on this model—with the exception of the MBS.

The basic specifications are the same as the standard Clapton model, but the “Eric Clapton V”-shaped one-piece straight-grained maple neck has had the finish on the back stripped away through the Journeyman Relic process, giving it a playing feel as if it had been played for many years. The fingerboard surface also features replicated paint wear and discoloration, creating an outstanding vintage look.Additionally, the Vintage Noiseless pickups—which can be combined with the familiar mid-boost and TBX controls—have also been given a relic finish.

Its versatility allows you to craft a wide range of tones right at your fingertips, reaffirming the high level of craftsmanship found in the Eric Clapton Stratocaster—but this model is truly the ultimate instrument, boasting a look that’s brimming with vintage charm.
On the back of the headstock is a special decal indicating “Limited Edition 30th Anniversary,” and in addition to the standard certificate of authenticity, two Limited Edition certificates are included—features sure to appeal to Clapton fans.

Due to the relic finish, it is difficult to fully distinguish between normal wear and tear and intentional aging, but there are no visible playing scratches or unnatural dents, and it is in relatively good condition.
It has been cleaned, had its frets leveled, and undergone a full adjustment since arrival, so it’s ready to play without any issues.
