A 1991 wine-red Custom has just arrived!

Among the various Custom models—such as the ’54, ’57, and ’68—this is not a “vintage-style” model but a modern-spec Les Paul Custom. Unlike the ’54 and ’57 models, the body features a classic maple top and mahogany back. The neck is, of course, mahogany, and the fingerboard is now made of ebony!It’s equipped with two so-called “engraved humbuckers,” with their patent numbers stamped on the back. The DC resistance values are approximately 8.1k on the neck side and 13.5k on the bridge side, so this is likely a combination of the “490R” and “498T” pickups.

The pickguard has fine picking scratches over its entire surface. The body features authentic weather checking all over, giving it a fantastic vintage look. There are dents of varying sizes beneath the bridge, and the outer edges of the body are dotted with scuff marks and small dents. There is a linear scratch on the lower right side of the body, and yellowing from a stand is visible on either side of the strap pins at the end. The back of the body has buckle marks and dents of various sizes.On the back of the neck, there is clear coat peeling in the lower positions, and the clear coat on both sides has deteriorated overall; however, this does not significantly affect playability.There is a large sticker mark on the top of the headstock, along with discoloration from color transfer and clear coat peeling caused by removal. Additionally, the clear coat on the veneer section exhibits weather checking that resembles a pattern; this is a common sign of aging typical for instruments of this era. The plating on all hardware has deteriorated, and there is peeling plating on the 6th-string side of the bridge. The tip of the truss rod cover is chipped.

The guitar was set up upon arrival (cleaning, string replacement, truss rod adjustment, octave adjustment, string height adjustment, and fret leveling). The fret heights are at a level that poses no issues for playing, and the truss rod has been tested to move 60° in both directions with no problems.

Overall, while it cannot be called a “mint” condition instrument—as it bears sticker marks common to Custom models and shows typical signs of use—it is in well-played condition appropriate for its age. Rest assured that the neck has been thoroughly adjusted and plays without any issues. This is a Custom Wine Red model, which is now quite rare on the market. We highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a model from their birth year in this color!
