Original 1970s Black Beauty—in excellent condition!

This 1970s 416 Black Beauty has become extremely rare, as the number of them appearing on the market has dwindled in recent years.
The combination of a seamless brass shell and black nickel plating is now considered the classic standard, but this is the genuine original.
With its sleek black body and a gleaming blue-olive badge, this snare drum is the envy of Radick fans worldwide.
This particular snare appears to be a Black Beauty from the time of its re-release in the ’70s (1977–78).

Although the snare wire and heads have been replaced, the other parts appear to be original, and the shell is in excellent condition with very few scratches. While there are some minor dents and rust on the hoops, it’s in remarkably good shape for a 1970s instrument, clearly having been handled with great care.

The sound is exquisite. It has a rich, full sound image with the bright, open overtones characteristic of Radick, yet it remains well-controlled without being wild—sweet yet tight. It’s easy to see why it has been so highly valued in recording studios.
The 5-inch depth delivers a perfectly balanced, classic sound.
This is an exceptional example of the ultra-rare 1970s “Black Beauty”—a must-have for anyone searching for one!
