LPC: An Affordable Custom Shop for Head Crack MODs!

We’ve just received a 2013 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Custom.
This limited-production model features chrome-plated hardware and an ebony fingerboard.

Important: Major Professional Repairs
・Broken neck repair: A crack that occurred near the base of the headstock has been repaired using professional-quality woodworking and finishing techniques.
Since the area requiring woodworking was relatively small, it can be inferred that the break was minor and the crack was clean.
・Refinishing due to headstock crack: The serial number has been preserved, but the “Gibson CUSTOM” decal is missing.
Black Refinishing: This appears to have been applied from around the 9th fret on the neck grip to the area near the 6th and 1st string tuners on the headstock.
Topcoat application: Applied to the entire neck—from the neck joint on the body side to the sides and back of the headstock.
・Notes: Due to paint thinning caused by an accident and the passage of time following professional repairs, traces of woodworking are visible in some areas.
However, I can’t help but be impressed by how skillfully the woodwork has been used to beautifully reinforce and restore the instrument.
The transition between the original color and the re-stained color is also beautifully executed, creating a seamless, borderless finish where the boundary is barely noticeable.

Other General Condition
Manufactured in 2013, this instrument is now in its 13th year of use.
There are signs of wear from years of playing, but the damage consists mainly of scuff marks.
There are a fair number of scratches near the neck pickup caused by pick strumming.
Scratches resembling those from polishing are noticeable across the entire body, but since there are no buckle marks or rivet marks on the back of the body, it may not have been used for band activities.
Signs of paint degradation are visible across the entire body, but it does not look dirty and maintains a clean appearance.
Additionally, there is slight wear on the truss rod cover and some paint peeling near the strap button at the body end.
However, there are no signs of heavy use or rough handling, so it’s possible that a neck break and paint peeling occurred simultaneously due to an accident, such as the guitar accidentally falling over indoors.
Nevertheless, it stays in tune reliably without any annoying issues, and it feels like a “Player’s Condition” instrument that offers excellent playability at a reasonable price.
