A 2003 Martin D-35 Standard has arrived.
The D-35 Standard from this era features a nut width of approximately 43 millimeters.
Because the grip shape is also slimmer to match the narrower nut width, the feel in your hands is similar to that of acoustic guitars from well-known Japanese brands.
The feel when playing chord progressions may be similar to that of a Japanese-made acoustic guitar.
Additionally, since this instrument is now 23 years old, it shows numerous signs of wear from years of playing and handling, as well as repair marks; however, it is crafted from high-quality wood and is from a period that has been gaining renewed appreciation in recent years.
The Indian rosewood and ebony have a texture that surpasses that of more recently made instruments.
This is a rare example featuring a “book-matched top of Bearclaw Spruce,” with the top made of Sitka spruce that exhibits the distinctive Bearclaw figure.(Bearclaw is a type of grain pattern that primarily appears in Sitka spruce and Ingleman spruce. It is called “bearclaw” because it resembles the claw marks left by a bear scratching a tree; it is not a crack or defect, but a natural grain that appears by chance, and its rarity makes it highly sought after.)
Following its arrival, it has undergone repairs, setup, and meticulous cleaning, resulting in a clean instrument with excellent playability and enhanced tone.

・Fret leveling and shaping
・Replacement of the nut with one made from unbleached oil-treated wood
・Re-gluing of the detached bridge

Past Repair History (Checked under blacklight in a darkroom)
・Added a strap button to the neck heel.
・Crack repair at the neck heel; signs of overspray visible across the entire neck except for the headstock top and fingerboard. (Appears to have been applied with a clear coat featuring coarse particles, likely intended to create a pseudo-satin grip.)
・Adhesive repairs present on internal body bracing and other areas.
・Crack repair on the top of the body near the 6th string side of the soundhole, aligned with the grain. (Reinforced with a diamond-shaped wooden patch on the back.)
・There are signs of crack repair on the shoulder area of the body side on the 6th-string side.
・There is a repair to the outer binding at the body end of the back.
・There are traces of overspray across the entire body. (This may have been applied during the repairs mentioned above.)
・Pickguard replaced

Overall Condition
・It’s undeniable that the appearance is somewhat disappointing due to dents scattered throughout, scratches from playing, various handling marks, and traces of past repairs. However, thanks to repairs performed after we received it, the playability, sound, and response have improved significantly!
