Featuring a 16-inch-wide, 1.75-inch-thick double-cutaway body, the Smith Jazz was designed with funky jazz in mind. While its appearance is reminiscent of a semi-hollow body guitar, the interior features a full-hollow construction with parallel bracing.
Directly beneath the bridge sits the proprietary “Detroit One Block” made of spruce. While leveraging the rich resonance characteristic of a full-hollow body, it adds core and sustain to the sound, delivering a tone with substance that responds well to both aggressive picking and light crunch.
The instrument features a thin three-ply body constructed of maple, spruce, and maple, paired with a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. With a 625mm scale length and a 12-inch radius, it offers smooth fingering and nimble playability.
It is equipped with a single KINGSNAKE original pickup, based on a vintage P-90 but specially tuned for this model. Thanks to its Alnico 4 magnet and optimized winding count, it adds a thick core to the sweet, woody tone characteristic of the neck position. The simple configuration—featuring just one volume and one tone control—minimizes interference with the body’s natural vibration, resulting in a crisp, cutting sound for rhythm playing and a deep, jazzy tone for single-note playing.
The “Poison Burst” finish, with its ultra-thin lacquer that reveals the grain of the wood, adds to the wild, vintage-like charm unique to this guitar. With its lingering harmonics and well-defined sound, this instrument goes beyond traditional jazz tones to express a rich range of styles, from blues and soul to funk.
