USED Fender / 1970s Jazz Bass MOD 3-Tone Sunburst [11]

A refinished Fender Jazz Bass believed to have been made in the 1970s.
The serial number on the neck plate is “408030,” which, based on Gruhn’s records, suggests it was made around 1973. However, since no date stamps are visible on either the body or the neck, the exact year of manufacture cannot be determined. The headstock shows signs of lacquer discoloration, and its appearance has a distinct 1970s vibe, leading us to estimate it was made roughly during that decade.

Various parts have been restored and repaired: the fret slots were recut, and the frets were replaced using JESCAR 57110. The nut was replaced, the missing 1st-fret inlay was reinstalled, and the peeling neck binding was re-glued. Additionally, screw holes on the headstock and body were filled in, and traces of these repairs are visible. A new pickguard was crafted, and the bridge mounting position was adjusted.

The parts include a Fender Pure Vintage ’66 Jazz Bass Pickup Set, a Pure Vintage ’70s Jazz Bass Bridge Assembly, a Pure Vintage ’70s Bass Tuning Machine Set, and a Pure Vintage Bass String Guide. The control panel uses a Jazz Bass assembly, and it is equipped with a Nue capacitor.

While this instrument does not retain its original parts configuration from the time of manufacture, it was built based on a 1970s Jazz Bass, with modifications and part replacements made to various sections to suit today’s playing environment. It combines the vintage character of the neck and headstock with the practicality of modern parts.
In addition to the aforementioned headstock discoloration, the instrument shows signs of wear consistent with its age, including scratches, dents, paint deterioration and peeling, cracks, and rust spots on metal parts.
There are no noticeable issues with the neck, and it is in good playing condition.
