A Special Modified Model by CULT
The sound of a special 1980 TS-808 “#1” has been recreated by Susumu Tamura, the designer of the TS-808, himself.

The basis for this model was a 1980 TS-808 “#1” discovered following a “Tube Screamer” feature in a certain magazine. This unit garnered attention for its overwhelming clarity and open sound, extended low-end response, and excellent chord separation—qualities that set it apart even when compared to other units from the same era and lot.

We thoroughly analyzed this “#1” and, together with Susumu Tamura—the creator of the TS-808—studied its characteristic waveforms, frequency response, and harmonic composition. By modifying the current Ibanez TS-808 model, we have recreated the unique sound of “#1.”

A major characteristic is that, while it delivers the pronounced midrange presence typical of TS-series pedals, it also features a smooth, uncluttered extension all the way down to the low end and clear separation when playing chords. With a slightly higher gain setting, it’s possible to create a solid overdrive sound, and even when heavily distorted, it clearly preserves the texture of the strings and the nuances of your picking.

In V.2, a vintage feel has been added not only to the overdrive sound but also to the bypass tone, pursuing a sound even closer to the original “#1.” Its appeal lies in a unique sound that combines the essence of a vintage TS pedal with transparent-style elements, achieving a balance of low-end extension, separation, and clarity.

The exterior design essentially follows that of the original TS-808; no major modifications or additional switches have been added, and the modifications are focused primarily on the internal circuitry. The LED has been replaced with a brighter one for better visibility, and the unit is designed to always start up with the effect turned on when powered on.

All modifications were performed personally by Susumu Tamura himself, and the back of the unit features his handwritten signature and a serial number.
Although it shows slight signs of use, it is in good condition. It functions perfectly.
