Handcrafted in Japan, the FG9M features an Adirondack spruce top and African mahogany back and sides, delivering powerful volume and a clear tone that’s perfect for singer-songwriters. The FG9 Mahogany is characterized by its warm mid-to-low frequencies and a light, airy sound.

The top is crafted from Adirondack spruce, a rare, hard, and lightweight wood, while the African mahogany back has been made thicker to enhance its performance as a reflector, thereby amplifying the sound radiation from the top.
Furthermore, the bolt-on neck joint design creates a moderate separation between the neck and body, allowing the vibrational energy from the strings and the neck to be concentrated into the body.
It successfully combines the “quick attack and powerful volume” expected of a Dreadnought style with the “clarity” that is a hallmark of Yamaha acoustic guitars.
It combines the light yet resilient sound unique to an Adirondack spruce top with the warm resonance and crisp clarity provided by African mahogany sides and back.
The inner label visible through the soundhole is made of washi paper; the position marks feature a design reminiscent of kumiki wood joinery; and the soundhole and body lines are adorned with rope inlays and rope binding reminiscent of traditional Japanese shimenawa.

This is the flagship model of the FG series, handcrafted at the Hamamatsu factory.
It features carefully selected woods, meticulous craftsmanship that reflects the artisan’s skill, and the refined design unique to Yamaha—a source of pride for Japan.
