Handcrafted in Japan, the concert-sized FS9R features an Adirondack spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. With its excellent projection, clarity, and comfortable playability, it is ideal for singer-songwriters who perform delicate arpeggios and fingerstyle playing.

The use of rare Adirondack spruce with tapered edges, combined with scalloped bracing designed using the latest acoustic analysis simulations, increases structural strength while allowing the body to vibrate more effectively, resulting in a sound that combines richness and clarity.
Furthermore, the bolt-on neck joint design ensures a moderate separation between the neck and body, allowing the vibrational energy from the strings and the neck to be concentrated into the body.

Other major attractions include outstanding playability, thanks to the compact concert-style body shape, a shorter 634mm scale length, a body that is thicker than the conventional FS model, and a slightly rounded V-shaped neck profile.

You’ll experience the light yet resilient sound unique to an Adirondack spruce top, along with the deep, rich tonal range characteristic of guitars with Indian rosewood sides and back.

The inner label visible through the soundhole is made of washi paper; the position marks feature a design reminiscent of kumiki wood joinery; and the soundhole and body lines are adorned with rope inlays and rope binding reminiscent of traditional Japanese shimenawa.

This is the flagship model of the FG series, handcrafted at the Hamamatsu factory.
It features carefully selected woods, meticulous craftsmanship that reflects the artisan’s skill, and the elegant design unique to Yamaha—a source of pride for Japan.
