This is a medium gain overdrive pedal that took more than a year of development to complete in order to create a new overdrive sound with Char, a leading Japanese rock guitarist and a guitarist that many follower guitarists admire, aim for, and respect.
Evolution to a new drive sound based on the famous drive pedal
There are many famous drive pedals that Char loved to use. Among them, we thoroughly verified the sound of several units, including his own Klon CENTAUR, which Char particularly liked and used for many years, and a unit owned by VEMURAM, which we think has a particularly good sound. In addition, since Char does not use drive pedals by themselves, but combines them with boost sounds such as Roland CE?1 and Watkins Copicat to create that drive sound, we started development to create a new drive sound that reflects these nuances as well. During the development period of more than a year, Char himself used the sample machine many times in the field, and through repeated design changes and tuning based on the feedback from the samples, the new drive sound with medium gain that we aimed for has evolved.
Over a year of verification with Char's own guitars, amplifiers, and other equipment from past generations
In the development process, we used a variety of legendary amps that Char has used over the years, his favorite equipment such as effects boards and Copicat, as well as his own legendary Mustangs, 59' burgundy mist Strat, P90 equipped Les Paul, SG, and other guitars that he has used over the years. VEMURAM took custody of many of Char's favorite pieces of equipment that he had used for many years, and repeated tuning and verification using these legendary pieces of equipment.
Two sound tunings in one
Among the many sample pedals that were created during the development period, there were two that Char ended up liking. Although their circuits are basically the same, their tones and sound nuances differ greatly due to differences in the types of parts and constants, etc. Char himself could not decide which one he liked better until the end, and since he wanted both sounds in actual live situations, he decided to go for the luxury of having two in one chassis. The first sound has a slightly dead tone with a vintage feel, while the second, the B-channel (bright channel), is a bit brighter and more powerful with a stronger attack. Also, neither of these two sounds is the main one, and the LEVEL can be set individually and switched by footswitch.
