The early HD-28 combines power and cohesiveness!"

The HD-28, introduced in 1976, was the first model in which Martin revived the use of scalloped bracing, which had been discontinued for a while after the war, because the use of heavy gauge was rarely used anymore due to the spread of PA, and concerns about its strength had been resolved. Along with the scalloped bracing, the herringbone body binding was also restored. The first "H" in the model number means herringbone.
This particular model was made in 1978, when square rods were adopted. The current HD-28 has a vintage look and feel in many areas, but the original product featured Grover Rotomatic pegs, a 42.9mm nut width neck, and a black pickguard.

The pickguard has been replaced with a new one, which shows the marks from Martin Crack's correction. The new pickguard has beveled edges and is in keeping with the original look and feel. There are some dents, scratches, paint clouding, satin paint flaking on the back of the neck, and tarnishing of metal parts, but there is no significant damage.
The guitar has been refretted, the saddle has been replaced, and a West German era Shadow contact pickup (passive) and strap pins on the back of the neck heel have been retrofitted. The heel cap seems to have been replaced. The bridge pin appears to be a genuine Martin pin, but has probably been replaced with a more recent one. The bridge plate has been repaired by our repair department.
The neck is in fair condition, and the frets are slightly worn, but not at a level that would interfere with playing, and more than 80% of the height remains. Both playability and sound are perfect. The tone is clear compared to the regular D-28, but has the power of a 70's Martin. It also has a moderate sense of compression and a cohesive sound. This guitar is highly recommended.
