This is a 12-string guitar version of the D-28 introduced in 1970. The scale is shorter than the 6-string version at 24.9 inches. It was the first model to set the standard for 12-string guitars with a pin bridge and a 14-fret joint. While some 12-string guitars in the early days had an ethnic flavor, Martin's 12-string guitars had a sophisticated sound and were very popular in the West Coast rock scene as well as in folk music.
This particular guitar was made in 2002. It features Schaller-made pegs and a gold leaf logo. The top has a bearclaw.
There is a 2cm long scratch on the lower bout on the 6th string side. Other than these, there is no other noticeable damage, and only light picking scratches and scuffs can be seen.
The neck is in good condition, and the truss rod has been confirmed to operate at 60 degrees left and right. The frets have been rubbed together with no dents, and more than 80% of the height remains. Both playability and sound are perfect.
The sound is clear and elegant, as you would expect from a Martin 12-string guitar. The bass is not overpowered by the beautiful treble, and the sound is well-balanced. The neck is in good condition, which is a big burden for 12-string guitars. We recommend this guitar.
