We are pleased to announce the arrival of a 1975 Guild D-55. It is made at the Westerly factory, and you can feel its weight when you hold it in your hand. At that time, it was used by Yosui Inoue in Japan and Dewey Bunnell in the US (band name). It was the top of the line Guild dreadnought at the time, and the G shield inlay on the head and V block inlay on the fingerboard proudly show it off.
Although Guild took the world by storm, the neck was considered a weak point at that time, and there are not a few used guilds on the market today that show signs of hard work to correct the neck, but this one has a relatively good neck. The truss rod has been confirmed to operate at 60 degrees left and right.
The string height of Guild's products at that time was high at the time of shipment, but the bridge of this particular guitar has been slightly shaved to secure the playability. While some guilds had their saddles set as low as possible, this one has plenty of height to allow the player to feel the tension.
The peg knobs have been replaced with wooden ones, and a strap pin has been retrofitted to the neck heel. There are some dents, scratches, weather checks, and peeling paint, and the plating on the metal parts is tarnished, but these are generally within the range of use and age commensurate with its age. The truss rod cover and bridge have been repaired by our repair department.
The guitar was refretted at the time of arrival. The fretboard has been rubbed and adjusted by our repair department, and the height is still around 90%. Both playability and sound are perfect.
It has the overwhelming horsepower that is typical of Westerly guilds. It has a mid-bass tone comparable to a Martin dreadnought and a sharpness similar to a Gibson. This is a highly recommended Guild that lets you feel the real pleasure of the Guilds of the time.
