A hidden gem from Yamaha has just arrived!

When it comes to Yamaha basses, the "BB"—a massive bestseller that has been in production since its 1977 release—is the first model that comes to mind. However, the SB series we’ve just received was introduced in 1976, the year before the BB’s release.

Known as the "SB" series—short for "Super Bass"—these models feature a JB-type pickup, serving as a counterpart to the BB series, which uses either a single PB-type or a PJ-type pickup.
With its unique headstock and body shapes, as well as flower-shaped tuning pegs, this series has a distinctive look. However, since it was last listed in the catalog around 1982, it’s clear that this was a model with a short production run.

This particular instrument is the SB-500, which features a nato body.
With a slightly thicker one-piece neck and a body that feels substantial for a 4-string bass, it delivers an attack-driven and tight sound.

It’s a bass with a punchy tone that seems to come straight from the amp.

As it is an older model, it shows significant signs of use with numerous scratches and dents, but the neck is in good condition and does not currently affect playability.
The truss rod also functions properly.
