USED GIBSON / 1967 ES-335 Sparkling Burgundy [03]

We’ve just received an ES-335 Sparkling Burgundy from 1967, as indicated by its serial number and pot date!

It features specifications typical of that era, including a 14-degree headstock angle, a narrow-neck design with a narrow nut, and chrome-plated hardware.

Additionally, it features a combination of specifications from different eras—such as the higher-positioned crown inlays and wider pickguard bevels typical of models up to the mid-1960s, and the slightly larger F-hole size common from the mid-1960s onward—
making this a transitional-era model.

The wood configuration includes a laminated maple body, a one-piece mahogany neck, and a rosewood fingerboard.

It is equipped with two “sticker-numbered PAF” pickups with plastic screws.
While 335s from this period typically have a rich, airy tone with a distinct “hollow-body” character,
this model, thanks to the switch to a stop tailpiece, delivers a tone that, while retaining the characteristic boxy resonance, is tight
and a tone with good tension.

One of the pots has been confirmed as a 1966 original, while the other has been replaced.

The bridge saddle, frets, nut, one pot, the rear pickup escutcheon, one control knob, and the switch knob
have been replaced.

Additionally, while models from this period originally featured a trapeze tailpiece, it has now been
it has been modified to a stop tailpiece configuration, and there are signs that a Bigsby was previously installed.
The screw holes on the body end remain open.

There is a chip in the binding at the end of the fingerboard, and a chip on the corner of the headstock.
Otherwise, there are overall signs of wear consistent with its age, including scratches, dents, and weather checking.

This is a color that tends to fade easily, and this particular instrument shows signs of fading as well; the top has taken on a slightly orange hue,
and the neck has taken on a silvery hue in some areas.
The body back and headstock back retain a slight reddish tint, and there are some color variations on the body top
.

Although there is some damage due to age, it’s a great-looking guitar with a vintage vibe.
This is a rare “Sparkling Burgundy” finish that is seldom seen on the market.
