USED STEINBERGER / XL-2A Black [03]

We’ve just received a used Steinberger—a true pioneer of the headless bass!

Designed in the late 1970s by Ned Steinberger—also known for the design of Spector’s iconic NS-2 model—Steinberger was a brand that was quick to incorporate many innovative elements, such as adopting a groundbreaking body shape and using non-wood materials in its construction.

Based on its signature square, broom-shaped body, center-click tone control, and a cavity housing the circuit board, this appears to be an XL-2A.
This is the active version of the XL-2, which was released as an update to the earlier L-2.

It is equipped with EMG HB pickups and features a sound characterized by deep, powerful bass.
In addition to the volume and balancer controls, the aforementioned tone control allows you to boost both the low and high frequencies from the flat position.

Based on the serial number and the “3.9.89” marking inside the cavity, it is believed to have been manufactured in 1989.

This model does not have a truss rod in the neck; while it currently has a slight forward bow, there are no issues such as muffled sound when set to standard specifications.
It shows signs of wear commensurate with its age, and there are numerous signs of discoloration and scratches on the parts.

Condition Grade: B: Shows significant scratches and signs of use, but is suitable for normal use.
