A 1999 Historic Collection 1961 Les Paul SG Custom Reissue—believed to be a shop order—has arrived!
Based on the 1963-spec SG Custom, this model—believed to be a shop order—incorporates details from the very earliest 1961 models (labeled “Les Paul”).

When the Les Paul model underwent a full redesign in 1961 to become the current “SG shape,” it continued to be sold under the “Les Paul” name for the first two years or so, rather than as the “SG.”
Early SG Custom models from 1961–62 typically featured a “side-mounted tremolo arm and Grover tuners,” but around 1963, the specifications were updated to the “Maestro Vibrola and Kluson tuners” for improved playability.
This instrument features the highly sought-after hardware specifications of a rare 1963-era SG Custom model.

It features a mahogany body, a mahogany neck with just the right amount of grip, and a high-quality ebony fingerboard. It is equipped with three highly sought-after “57 Classic” pickups.

While offering a good amount of power, the combination of the Maestro Vibrola and Kluson tuners results in a tight low end and an open tone with beautifully extended highs.

Overall, there are scratches, dents, buckle marks, significant rust on the hardware, discoloration due to age, cracks along the entire body and at the binding, and paint cracks visible at the neck joint.
There is a crack in the tremolo arm cap, stand burn marks on the back of the neck, and what appears to be paint wear from a strap near the upper strap pin.

There is slight scratchy noise from the controls, but they have not been replaced to preserve the original condition.
The neck is in good condition, and there is still plenty of fret life remaining.

The hard case shows some minor damage but is still fully functional for storage.

Hiscore guitars from the 1990s are becoming increasingly popular, partly due to the high-quality wood used in their construction.
This is a rare model that combines features from 1961 and 1963 models!
